The Eatuitive Nutrition Team

Meet your Registered Dietitian & Fitness Advisor

Evelyn Cheng Best, Registered Dietitian

“Somewhere between the bottom of the climb and the summit is the answer to the mystery why we climb” – Greg Child

My name is Evelyn Cheng Best. I am an outdoor enthusiast, couch philosopher, armchair scientist and the Registered Dietitian at Eatuitive Nutrition. The quote from the famous climber resonated with us in particular because it emphasizes how the journey is just as important, if not more important, than the outcome.

The same philosophies that help elite athletes achieve peak performance can be applied to our modern lifestyles. We work together to take a supportive approach to what proper nutrition eating and exercise looks like in each person’s life, guiding you on the right path.

This means we start our programs first with our Testing Metrics Session that includes Body Composition & Resting Metabolism testing. We can consider the objective data unique to each individual, applying the science of nutrition to your daily lives. We then follow with a nutrition/fitness assessment, nutrient analysis, educational video series and recipes/meal plans so you have resources to support your peak health.

When you choose Eatuitive, you can trust in our honest, no sugarcoating and no BS advice!

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I immigrated to Canada at the age of 12. I lived with my godparents for my first 6 months in Calgary while my parents were far away preparing for the move across the pond. This experience at a tender age opened up my eyes to the vast cultural differences from East to West, in particular, food!

At Eatuitive, we appreciate all cultures and languages.

While I cannot always speak to your specific cultural foods, be assured that I will learn and be curious, and I will never ask you to give up your way of life and eating which are so important!

Education-wise, I received my five-year degree in nutrition from the University of Alberta. Post-degree, I received the Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) from the University of Calgary to better understand how and why people eat, as well as maintaining the ACSM certified personal trainer designation.

Besides my professional credentials, it is important to us that as your coach, we walk the talk. Despite a very academic and “nerdy” upbringing, I finally decided enough is enough, started to exercise, got into climbing, and transformed my body over the last 10 years which led to a 10% reduction in my body fat percentage despite staying at a relatively similar weight!

But this is not without its obstacles, and I’m here to help you navigate your path with less detours. Before I met our Fitness Advisor and my husband Michael, I was overly focused on nutrition and underestimated the importance of fitness. It was only until I reliquished my desire to be weigh X number on the scale, began to get stronger through training and gained muscle, did I truly become who I really am! In short, this is a true marriage between nutrition and fitness.

During days off, you will find me in the nature camping, hiking, climbing or cycling. Say hello!

Michael K. Best, Fitness Advisor

There is no replacement for displacement.

My name is Michael K. Best. I am a tinkerer of things, observer of the universe from the subatomic to the cosmic, and I apply these systems within the world of Fitness as the Advisor at Eatuitive Nutrition.

At 41 years, I am currently training on the 14th iteration of my peak physical self. From having sustained multiple injuries in my youth (broken L1L2 vertabae twice, femur, ribs, wrist, pelvis to name a few, and that’s only the bones!), I can guide you on how to expedite growth without compromise, with life-long methods as I am a walking, living example of what to avoid, and what is truly needed.

Combining my observations and efforts with the empirical science of food from our registered dietitian, over the course of 5 years I achieved results I never dreamt possible. I maintained a single digit % body fat and muscle striations while eating better than ever!

There is no magic. Movement with confidence is fundamental to efficient growth. In the mind, as with the body, these laws are inextricably linked.

The easiest way forward is to improve your technique. When it comes down to results, it is not as simple as “just increasing volume”. If you’re not training effectively, doing more of it just means you’re doing more of what’s ineffective and potentially increasing your risk for injury!

In addition to my practical experience, I am trained through the American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM)’s certified personal trainer program, and worked as a Coach at COR.FIT Winsport Calgary. Outside of work and training, you will find me tinkering all day or in the middle of the woods. My obsession is in understanding the nature of things, as the systems it teaches us is applicable to everything.
