Metabolic health built on your testing data.
Your resting metabolic rate and body composition, quantified using indirect calorimetry and multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis. Interpreted by a registered dietitian into a nutrition strategy tailored to your physiology.
-
Your first session will be an in-person baseline testing session with the registered dietitian, which includes both Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and Body Composition testing to give you a clear picture of how your body works - how much energy you burn at rest and what your body is made of. This data forms the foundation of your personalized nutrition strategy.
From here, we build on that foundation with a comprehensive nutrition assessment in your follow-up session. That’s where we dive deeper into your current habits, goals, and lifestyle to design a plan that’s targeted, sustainable, and results-driven.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
REEVUE® Korr Medical Metabolic Analyzer
This simple 10-minute breath test measures your actual oxygen consumption to determine your resting energy expenditure (REE). This is a VO2 test—but instead of max, we measure you at rest. Think of it like a car idling: this is the baseline calories your body uses just to be alive.
Whether your goal is performance, general health, or managing conditions like diabetes, heart health or thyroid issues, this test personalizes your approach. It also screens for a faster or slower metabolism to pinpoint calorie targets for fat loss, muscle growth, or maintenance.
Overnight fast, no caffeine and no exercise day-of prior to test.

Body Composition Analysis
InBody 570, with visceral fat measurement
The InBody scan uses multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance to analyze your fat and muscle composition. This includes a visceral fat score, which is a key indicator of metabolic risk. Highly accurate, it has a 0.99 correlation to the gold-standard DEXA scan, providing detailed fat and lean mass breakdowns for each body segment.
During your session, your dietitian will interpret your results and establish personalized protein targets based on your goals and lean body mass. This allows us to track real, meaningful changes that go far beyond a standard scale.
Arrive normally hydrated, avoiding exercise and excessive food or fluid intake prior to your session

Resting Metabolic Rate Testing:
A 10-minute breath test measures your exact calorie burn at rest.
We use indirect calorimetry—the gold standard for metabolic testing.
Same-day results interpretation by a registered dietitian
Understanding of why previous approaches haven't worked
Baseline data to track metabolic changes over time
Body Composition Testing:
The InBody scan breaks down your muscle mass and body fat in under a minute.
Same lab-grade technology with 0.99 to DEXA scan.Lean muscle mass by body segment
Body fat percentage and distribution
Visceral fat level
Total body water and balance
Protein requirements based on your lean mass
This data determines your exact protein targets—typically one gram per pound of lean body mass—and helps track real changes beyond the scale.
How to Prepare:
Overnight fast (12 hours) - RMR test only
No caffeine morning of test - RMR test only, limit for InBody
No exercise morning of test - RMR test only, limit for InBody
Wear lightweight, comfortable clothing
Why our testing is different?
-
Direct Metabolic Measurement
We measure your body’s oxygen consumption both at rest (RMR) and during exercise (VO2 Max). This identifies your daily calorie burn and cardiovascular fitness, providing a clear baseline for your nutrition and performance strategy.
-
Body Composition Analysis
Set clearer targets and track progress over time. Using InBody 570 analysis, we measure your muscle and fat mass to help shape your health, fitness, and body composition goals, including your ideal daily protein needs.
-
Lifestyle Coaching & Education
More than a plan, we teach you how your body works. Through practical habit-building and daily flexibility, we give you the skills and strategies to navigate real-life eating with confidence.
-
Dietitian-Led Clinical Expertise
Registered Dietitians working directly alongside Physiotherapists and Kinesiologists to deliver university-educated, regulated healthcare under one roof.
-
Absolutely. Many plateaus happen because actual calorie needs don't match calculator estimates. Testing reveals your exact needs, helping you break through stalls with precision rather than guessing.
-
You'll sit comfortably and breathe normally into a mouthpiece for 10-20 minutes. It's completely non-invasive. After your test, your dietitian reviews results with you immediately and answers all questions.
-
InBody 270 provides research-grade accuracy for tracking body composition changes. Another common tool in the industry is DEXA (or DXA). According to this study, there are no statistically significant differences between the InBody 270 and DXA for any measure of body composition. This means both tools are comparable in accuracy.
-
Yes. Eating before your test affects metabolic rate and can skew results by 10-20%. Fasting ensures we're measuring your true resting metabolism, not digestion.
-
Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) shows calories burned at rest. Add activity and exercise on top of that for your total daily needs. Most people are surprised by their actual numbers because it’s often higher or lower than calculators suggest.
-
Building lean muscle mass increases your resting metabolic rate. Our body composition analysis shows your current muscle mass, and follow-up testing tracks increases. We also identify if you're undereating, which can slow metabolism over time.
-
For body comp - monthly to quarterly
For RMR - every 6 months or so (see here)
Most clients retest every 3-6 months to track progress. If you're making significant body composition changes, quarterly testing helps you adjust your strategy based on real data.
-
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is measured in lab-controlled conditions after overnight sleep in a facility. Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is measured at rest in normal conditions and is slightly higher. RMR is more practical and clinically relevant for real-world applications.
As you can see, the difference between BMR and RMR is more of a technicality. All you need to know is that your RMR gives a picture of how much you burn at rest.
-
That's common. Generic formulas use population averages. Your metabolism is unique to you. That's exactly why we test—to get YOUR number, not an estimate.
-
Every test includes interpretation by a registered dietitian. Our packages include interpretation during the same session as your test. We explain what your numbers mean, how they relate to your goals, and what specific actions to take next.
-
Absolutely! Use this link to book the first person, and we will manually add the second person once you’ve booked. Your session length will be extended from 1hr to 1.5hr.
Please text us at 403-719-5858 or email us so we make sure to update and extend the session!
For nutrition assessments, you’re welcome to sit in on each other’s session but we’ll focus on one person at a time for the best results.
