Body Composition Scan in Calgary
Your bathroom scale tells you how much you weigh, not what that weight is made of. An InBody 570 scan breaks your body down into muscle, fat and water, segment by segment, in under a minute. At our clinic inside Evolve Strength Royal Oak in NW Calgary, a registered dietitian explains your body composition scan results and turns them into protein and nutrition targets, so you can track real change, not just scale weight.
Nutrition assessments in Calgary are available after your baseline metabolic and body composition testing.
What an RMR Test Measures
What your InBody scan shows
Body fat percentage and total fat mass
Skeletal muscle mass, with lean mass for each arm, each leg and your trunk
Visceral fat level, the fat around your organs that is linked to metabolic risk
Total body water and fluid balance
A protein target based on your lean mass
How the InBody body composition test works
You stand on the InBody 570 barefoot and hold the hand electrodes. A small, painless electrical current at several frequencies passes through your body (multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis). Muscle, which holds a lot of water, conducts the current differently from fat, which is how the scan estimates each one.
How to prepare
Avoid food and caffeine for 2–4 hours before your scan
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
Skip exercise on the day of your scan and arrive normally hydrated
Wear light clothing and remove metal jewellery
The scan isn't suitable if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, and we don't recommend it during pregnancy.
InBody vs. DEXA scan
Searching for a DEXA scan in Calgary? Here's how the two compare, so you can choose the right test. Eatuitive offers InBody, not DEXA.
Why track body composition instead of weight
Two people at the same weight can have very different health risks. You can also lose fat and gain muscle while the scale doesn't move, or lose "weight" that is mostly muscle and water. Regular scans show which one is happening, so your weight loss plan or training can be adjusted before you lose progress.
Tracking body composition helps you understand changes that body weight alone can’t explain. The scale may stay the same even as you lose fat and gain muscle, while weight fluctuations can reflect changes in body water. Body composition scans estimate fat and muscle mass, giving you and your dietitian more context to assess progress and adjust your nutrition plan.
